periel aschenbrand
New York native Periel Aschenbrand is the author of The Only Bush I Trust Is My Own, an audacious memoir of sex and politics. Her book, On My Knees, is forthcoming (2012) by Harper Collins.
Fed up by mind numbing corporate advertising, she founded design studio, Body as Billboard in 2003 and has worked on cutting edge branding and ad campaigns, logos and tee shirts for everyone from Kenneth Cole to Alicia Keys’ AIDS organization, Keep A Child Alive. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Observer, New York Magazine, WWD and The New York Post.
From 2005-2010, she was the Director of Photography Gallery, 401 Projects, where helped curate and produced exhibitions for Mark Seliger, Mikhail Baryshnikov, James Nachtwey, Albert Watson, Patti Smith, Eugene Richards and numerous others.
Part cultural criticism, part comedy, she has addressed standing room only crowds for annual Take Back the Night marches and Voices For Choice fundraisers at Northeastern University and NYU.
Aschenbrand is the Creative Director of the concept boutique, House of Exposure, and holds an MFA in creative writing.
