third wave foundation

Third Wave is a feminist, activist foundation that works nationally to support young women and transgender youth ages 15 to 30. Through strategic grantmaking, leadership development, and philanthropic advocacy, they support groups and individuals working towards gender, racial, economic, and social justice.

Third Wave is led by a board of young women, men, and transgender activists striving to combat inequalities that we ourselves face as a result of our age, gender, race, sexual orientation, economic status, or level of education. By empowering young women and transgender youth nationwide, Third Wave is building a lasting foundation for young feminists around the country.  Third Wave has fingers on the pulse of young feminist activism and their staff, board, and grant partners can provide speakers on a huge diversity of topics.

herndon2.jpgMia Herndon joined the Third Wave Foundation in the position of Outreach Coordinator as a meaningful progression within her commitment to the global women and human rights movement.  She currently holds the title of Director of Programs at Third Wave. Prior to this, Mia was the Program Director focusing on Reproductive Health & Justice.  By concentrating her energy within these movements, Mia's areas of interest and activism unite to ensure a broad yet thorough method of dealing with issues that range from the prison industrial complex, HIV/AIDS, the war on drugs, and progressive community development. Beyond Third Wave, Mia dances, acts and is also an active member of La Abeja Obrera, which is an organization unified around worker solidarity, the ROOTS taskforce of the War Resisters League, and on the board of Voices Unbroken, a creative writing program for women and girls.
