Manifesta is 10!
For us, it's hard to believe that it's been a decade since Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future was published. The first book by Soapbox co-founders Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner, it literally spawned Soapbox by enabling the two to travel the country speaking to audiences of students, activists, and feminists. To celebrate the March 2010 publication of a ten-year anniversary edition, Jen and Amy will be touring the country, stopping at places like Allegheny College (March 2), U-Mass Dartmouth (April 30), and events in New York City at the Sackler Center(March 20) and 92 Street Y-Tribeca(April 21).

featured speaker:
marcia ann gillespie
Popular Soapbox speaker Marcia Ann Gillespie is touring (and getting raves) for her speech about moving mountains. Using personal stories and examples from recent history and current events, she illustrates how our sense of ourselves and our view of others has and still is being affected by mountains of stereotypes, lies and distortions, racist mountains, homophobic mountains, patriarchal mountains—mountains that give privilege to some of us while disadvantaging others. She tackles the difference between climbing mountains andremoving them, and why we must do both to make the great promise of America ever more tangible for all of her people.

What's New?
We're so glad you asked! Soapbox has added five brilliant new speakers to our roster: Sisterhood Is Powerful-creator and famed feminist Robin Morgan, spoken word star Staceyann Chin, barrier-breaking-former-Senator Carol Moseley Braun, bisexual activist Amy Andre, andDr. Patti Feuereisen, a pro-girl pioneer in treating sex abuse.
